Many drivers have brought the digital-front-door idea front of mind. For example, in the 21st Cures Act, the U.S. government made it clear that the nation’s payers and providers need to provide unfettered electronic access to members and patients using HL7 FHIR, a modern data-sharing standard. In other countries, the pandemic and the move toward more patient-centric, outcomes-based care have pushed forward-leaning organizations to create digital-front-door strategies to facilitate such services as virtual visits and on-line appointment scheduling.
