Nieuwe features zoals distributed query’s, nieuwe MPP- en analytics-technologie.

Sybase, Inc., an SAP company and industry leader in enterprise and mobile software, today announced the general availability of Sybase IQ 15.3, powered by a new generation of shared everything Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) technology. With this release, enterprise IT departments can overcome scalability limitations of today’s data warehouses in many industries including financial services, telecommunications, information providers, healthcare and insurance. By implementing a business analytics information solution that allows sharing of computing and data resources with the innovative Sybase IQ PlexQ technology, enterprises can lead the next wave of data warehouse transformation by breaking down user and information silos to drive analytics adoption throughout the entire organisation.

The transformative power of business analytics cannot be fully realised until IT departments provide all users with real-time access to information assets across the enterprise and enable integration of analytics directly into core operational processes. Yet current Enterprise Data Warehouse solutions are not meeting the need. “More than 70% of so-called enterprise data warehouses actually serve only back-office or limited departmental use cases,” according to Gartner research¹ and, “Exploration of alternative data warehouse infrastructures increased in 2010.” Driving the next wave of adoption in business analytics requires new approaches to data warehousing that overcome the user scalability, application workload and dataset limitations of the current generation of Enterprise Data Warehouse solutions.

The release of Sybase IQ 15.3 with PlexQ technology redefines enterprise-wide business analytics with a shared-everything MPP architecture that scales to support real-time access to thousands of users, multiple mixed workloads and massive datasets. With Sybase IQ PlexQ, IT departments can implement virtual data marts in order to optimise the experience for different applications and user communities. Sybase IQ PlexQ dynamically balances query workloads across nodes on the grid for massively parallel processing of complex analytics at speeds 10 to 100 times faster than traditional data warehouses. Unlike current shared-nothing MPP architectures that are optimised for certain workloads, the combination of Sybase IQ’s columnar data store, shared-everything grid, and logical servers ensures top performance for any query, any workload over any dataset.

“Through our participation as a Sybase IQ 15.3 beta test site, we have experienced its disruptively fast query performance, due to the truly revolutionary new features that allow more servers to work on queries in parallel.” said Scott Smith, vice president, comScore, Inc. “We at comScore have a significant investment in Sybase IQ Multiplex and are very excited about the new Sybase IQ 15.3 release. I think Sybase engineering has really ‘hit the nail on the head’ with the new MPP ‘share everything’ architecture. These features will allow us to continue down the path of inexpensive commodity servers that improve our query performance, and we even expect to see higher hardware utilisation numbers.”

Sybase IQ 15.3 continues to expand Sybase IQ’s capacity to integrate business analytics into applications and business workflows - a growing trend among leading enterprises, by delivering APIs for both popular and emerging programming languages as well as a new Web Services interface that simplifies integration for software developers. With Sybase IQ, enterprises can run complex analytical models and algorithms within the database, eliminating the need for data mining algorithms inside business logic and accelerating overall performance of complex queries. Sybase IQ also supports the analysis of unstructured data often used in business workflows, such as proprietary document formats, emails, Web content, and now enables fast analysis of unstructured multi-media data within the database, further unifying disparate analysis and enabling customers to implement a business analytics information solution.

“Enterprise IT departments are demanding new ways to enhance their enterprise data warehouse systems to increase intelligence, productivity and analytics capability across the enterprise,” said Brian Vink, Vice President, product management, Sybase, an SAP company. “Sybase IQ, with its PlexQ technology, brings customers a powerful, yet simplified, approach that overcomes traditional data warehouse limitations. IT departments can now support users across the enterprise with many concurrent workloads and large datasets on a single, highly scalable elastic grid, significantly increasing analytics intelligence across the enterprise while reducing IT administration burden.”

Sybase IQ 15.3 key new features include:

• Sybase IQ PlexQ – A grid based MPP framework that unleashes the power of multiple CPU cores across many servers on large data sets to provide fast answers across a wide spectrum of complex queries
• Distributed Query Processing – Execute individual queries across many machines in a PlexQ grid for MPP, yet automatically balance workloads across the grid during peak periods
• Logical Servers – Group physical servers in a PlexQ grid into virtual clusters in order to optimise analytic workloads, user needs and applications
• Built-in Web Services API and Ruby-on-Rails language driver – Simplify integration with workflow processes and web-based applications to publish and consume web services that take advantage of a new generation of analytical applications
• Multimedia API – Integratelibraries for in-database analysis of images, audio, video and other multimedia content that increase the value of business analytics for unstructured as well as structured information
• InfoPrimer Module – Dramatically simplify and accelerate loading of data into Sybase IQ through Extract, Load, and Transform methodology, allowing data transformations to take place where they make the most sense to the customer
• Rich, web-based administration and monitoring interface – Leverage Sybase Control Center to greatly simplify operational tasks for DBAs and provides a thin client interface for ease of Sybase IQ administration
