Alec Sharp on Concept Data Modelling and the Data-Process-Connection

Deel dit bericht

At the Data warehousing & BI Summit that took place at March 27th in Utrecht, Alec Sharp presented his session Conceptual Data Modelling and the Data-Process-Connection, where he stated that a concept model is invaluable to process and architecture initiatives.

In this interview with BI-Platform, Alec Sharp talks about how to get started on concept modelling, the importance of concept modelling, how to identify the most important data concepts and how to validate a conceptual model and who should sign off? Finally he shines the light on the role of AI in conceptual modelling.

00:00 Introduction
00:20 In your session you elaborate on a "guerilla modelling" tactic to get started on concept modelling, can you briefly elaborate?
03:28 Why is it that such a tactic would be needed, is the importance of concept modelling still underrated? And if so, why?
05:34 On the data - process connection: Would you start with a process model to identify your most important data concepts, or vice versa?
08:22 How do you validate a conceptual model? Who should sign off?
11:20 These days AI is everywhere: could AI play a role in conceptual modelling?
